GPA Electrical Power Update

Dear GPA Families,

We want to provide an update regarding the recent electrical power outages at Gompers Preparatory Academy (GPA).

While the electrical issues affecting our campus are beyond GPA’s control, GPA is working closely with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), and Sundt Construction to resolve them and identify a permanent solution.

We are pleased to share that progress is being made:

  • Immediate Improvements: On October 13, SDG&E replaced and upgraded electrical fuses on the power lines serving our campus to help improve reliability.
  • Additional Electrical Upgrades: SDG&E is working on replacing a primary transformer in the area to further support the electrical system.
  • Long-Term Solution: SDUSD and its project partners are coordinating with SDG&E to evaluate permanent infrastructure improvements, including replacing aging electrical lines that serve the area.
  • Precautionary Measures: A backup generator will remain on campus through at least Monday, October 19, as an added precaution during the anticipated heat wave.

While these improvements are encouraging, the permanent solution has not yet been finalized. The agencies and project teams involved continue to work together to identify and implement the necessary upgrades to provide GPA with reliable electrical service for years to come.

We appreciate the collaboration and continued efforts of SDG&E, SDUSD, and Sundt Construction as they work toward a lasting resolution.

Our priority remains providing a safe, comfortable, and uninterrupted learning environment for our students and staff.

We will continue to keep our GPA families informed as additional information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.
