A Letter to Our Community

Dear Students, Families, Community Members, and Partners,

Gratitude, determination, positivity, grit, joy and the belief that an inner city school can provide access for our students to achieve their goals is at the heart of what Gompers Preparatory Academy (GPA) stands for and resonates throughout our ongoing vision and mission.

Our journey began in 2005, when a group of dedicated parents, community members and staff decided the best way to serve the families in our community would be to convert to an independent public charter school serving the students residing in our Southeastern San Diego neighborhoods. Since then, we have grown a grade level per year and graduated our first proud Eagles in the spring of 2012. We have come so far in graduating nine senior classes, and we continue to work tirelessly to improve in everything that we do every step of the way.

GPA serves students in grades 6 through 12 and offers an A-G pathway toward college and beyond. We offer the curriculum accepted by both CSU and UC systems to ensure our students have the opportunity to apply to colleges. We know that succeeding in college takes hard work, commitment, confidence and a growth mindset. We also know above all else – believing in yourself and having others believe in you – is the key to moving towards your dreams.

Our unwavering desire to support students towards their college dreams comes from knowing that every day offers us the chance to improve the lives of our students, our families and our community – creating generational change. For over a decade, we have committed ourselves to the belief in educational equity and access for children in Southeastern San Diego as we continue to redefine inner city public education. We will not stop pushing forward on behalf of our students, becoming stronger, smarter and more effective at narrowing the opportunity gap.

Thank you for visiting our website and taking time to learn more about our important work. We encourage and invite you to roll up your sleeves and join us. Feel free to visit our donation page to learn how you can support our school.
