GPA Students Learn about Bike Safety with the San Diego Police Department

On May 7, 2014, GPA students participated in Bike to School Day and the culminating Health and Safety Fair to nearby Gompers Park.  The event, hosted by Rady Children’s Hospital, the San Diego Police Department’s juvenile services department, SAY San Diego, and other local agencies, featured free bicycle/scooter helmets and other safety-related give-aways, free bike tune-ups, a speed/brake demonstration to help students see the real dangers pedestrian’s face with even slower-moving cars. Students also learned proper hand signals, and participated in a “bike rodeo,” weaving through a course set-up by SDPD while being taught about proper bike control. Thank you to Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego Police Department, and our other community partners for teaching our students and for keeping our community safe!
