11.10.2015 – CIF Event

Congratulations to Eliza for making it to the CIF tennis event played this week at the Barnes Tennis Center.  The best 128 players from the San Diego, Calexico, North County, Fallbrook and Brawley to name a few have been competing this week at the tennis center.

Eliza, playing tennis less than 6 months impressed many of her fans that came out to watch.   Watching her play this week you would of thought she had been playing tennis for 6 years.  Eliza was matched against the #2 player from La Jolla Country Day.  At the start of the 1st set you could tell Eliza was a little nervous, but it only took one game for Eliza to shake off the nerves and start to make some incredible shots.  Playing against a player who has been playing for 9 years, Eliza was right in the match.  The games were all close but her opponent got the win.

Eliza may not of won the match but her determination, dedication and hard work to the sport of tennis will put her in this event again next year, and be a huge contender.  We are so proud of you Eliza for all that you have accomplished this year.   Well done!

10.21.2015 – Frontier League Championships

Congratulations to our two sophomores Eliza W. and Kayla H. who qualified to play in the Frontier League Tennis Championships yesterday.  Kayla played the #4 seed from HTHCV. Kayla came out on fire with some great forehands throughout the set.  In the end Kayla lost, but with a little more practice she will be winning more matches next season.  Well-done Kayla! Making it to the semi finals was Eliza W.   On her way to the semi finals, Eliza played the #1 player from King Chavez and defeated her 8-1.  Her next match was against the #3 player from High Tech Chula Vista.  Eliza had a supreme baseline game and with some impressive half-court shots won 8-0 convincingly, which took her into the semi finals.  In the semi finals she played the #2 seed from HTHCV.  They had some long rallies, but the power from the HTHCV player was too much for Eliza.  No worries, by this time next year Eliza will be the one to beat.  Eliza will be heading to CIF championships on November 9th to represent GPA.  Great job ladies, we are so proud of you.

09.08.2015 – GPA vs Health Sciences

Girls Varsity Tennis Season is here!  Our girls tennis team traveled to Roosevelt Middle School to take on Health Sciences in their first match of the season.  Returners Eliza, Jazmine, Rosa and Shelia led the way winning most of their matches.  New to tennis is Jocelyn P. who is an amazing athlete.  Playing tennis for one week she managed to win 4 games against some worthy opponents.  Great job Jocelyn, so proud of you.  Our MVP for the day was Eliza, last year she lost to all but one player at Health Sciences.  With her grandpa watching on the sidelines, she defeated the #1, #2 & the #3 players from Health Sciences, giving up only 8 games in all three matches.  Eliza who has been playing tennis for less then a year, proved that determination, hard work and practiced will take you a long way.  Well done lady Eagles. Final score was 6-11 in favor of Health Sciences.
