The future of GPA is under construction today!

Our Vision

Our Progress

You may have noticed that we have a lot of construction activity on the Gompers Preparatory Academy (GPA) campus these days — this is just the beginning of many exciting facilities improvements for our school. Please visit this page for regular updates on our progress.

San Diego Unified School District has begun construction on our new gymnasium building at GPA. This project, and our upcoming multi-story classroom building, are part of the district’s capital improvement program funded by Proposition S & Z. The following information describes these projects and outlines some of the construction activities.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC): Air conditioning is currently being installed campus-wide at GPA.  We look forward to keeping classrooms and offices more comfortable students and staff during hot weather days.

Gymnasium: The project provides three new buildings connected by covered walkways. The gymnasium building serves as both an athletic facility and multi-purpose room. It includes basketball and volleyball courts, a stage that opens to the exterior courtyard, bleacher seating for approximately 900, and storage.  Adjacent new buildings include dance studio, weight room, locker room, restrooms, concessions, and ticket booth. Other amenities include athletic training room, sprint track and long jump pits. Estimated Completion: Summer 2020

Multi-Story Classroom Building and Lecture Hall (Coming Soon): While the gymnasium is under construction, architectural design development will begin for our new two-story classroom building and lecture hall.  These buildings will replace all of the relocatable classrooms in north campus. We hope to submit designs to the Department of the State Architect by Spring 2019, and start construction by Fall 2020. Estimated Completion: Spring 2022
